A Summer Trip to Newfoundland

A Summer Trip to Newfoundland

On Friday I returned from my motorcycle tour of Newfoundland, 3500 miles in 21 days!

Western Brook Pond, Gros Morne National Park

Mostly camping, some nights with friends, airbnb, or motel stays. The Viking site, Leif Erickson’s camp was very interesting as was the varied terrain, some unique geology, and stunning scenery. Gros Morne National Park is another very special place. The people were very friendly and generous.

Lot’s of serious wind, steady and strong, or gusty, either way a challenge on our motorcycles.

Beautiful Coast

“The Rock” has some really long, and stony beaches as well as high cliffs and headlands with crashing surf - really big waves!

We did camp at Sandbanks Provincial Park in Burgeo, a “Outport village”, Nice sand beaches - unique in Newfoundland. Water was cold, even colder than Maine. However, I did manage a very brief swim.

Saw many caribou on the road out.

I traveled with two really fine companions from our club, Riders of Southern Maine.
